Greene Leads The Red Storm Cross Country Team In Her First Trip To The BIG EAST Championships

In her first trip to the BIG EAST Championships, junior Tyneka Greene led the St. John's Cross Country team with a 77th place finish at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky., on Saturday.

As a team, the Red Storm finished 15th of 16 teams with 453 points and an average time of 24:12.28.

Greene transferred from York College in 2005, and sat out due to transfer regulations in 2006, making Saturday her first league championship. The junior has led the Red Storm in four straight races this season.

The West Virginia women's squad won the championships with 77 points and an average time of 21:01.61. The teams from Providence and Georgetown rounded out the top three, respectively.

For the Red Storm, freshman Sarah Sudbury finished 84th, while Sarah Fry, Pam Petruski and Lori Dougherty came in 96th, 97th and 99th, respectively. Kayla Regulski and Laura Walsh rounded out the top seven for St. John's.

Up next, the cross country team will travel to Franklin Park in Boston to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 10.
