QUEENS, N.Y. - In her first race of the season, junior Tyneka Greene led the Red Storm Cross Country team at Fairfield University's Victor F. Leeber S.J. Invitational with an eighth place time of 20:37.69 Saturday morning in Fairfield, Conn.

Greene scored eight of the Red Storm's 99 points in the 5K event. The invitational was Greene's first competition for the Red Storm as she sat out last season due to transfer regulations. Greene, from Jamaica, N.Y., transferred from York College in 2005.

St. John's finished fourth out of seven teams. Sacred Heart finished first with 39 points, followed by Fordham University with 42 points and Siena University with 78 points.

Freshmen Sarah Sudbury and Lori Dougherty followed Greene for a combined 37 points. Sudbury finished 14th with a time of 21:00.82, while Dougherty followed with a time of 21:47.46, finishing 23rd.

Also scoring for St. John's were veterans Sarah Fry, Pam Petruski and Rakibat Abiola, and freshman Laura Walsh. Fry's time of 21:53.74 was good enough for a 27 place finish. Petruski finished 33rd with a time of 22:06.91. Crossing the tape close on Petruski's heels were Abiola and Walsh running as a pair to keep their times as close as possible.

Freshmen Kayla Regulski, Ashlee Payne and Katrina Schaefer finished 43rd, 63rd, and 64th, respectively.

Seventy-seven athletes ran Saturday's 5K.

Next up, championship season begins as St. John's competes in the Metropolitan Championships, hosted at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y., on Friday, Oct. 5. Meet time to be announced.
