QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's senior middle hitter Hui Ping Huang has been selected as the Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) National Player of the Week for Nov. 26 through Dec. 2. The BIG EAST Volleyball Player of the Year earns the honor following the Red Storm's 3-0 win over Long Island and 3-1 victory over Delaware in the opening rounds of the NCAA Volleyball Championship. Huang, a middle blocker from Shanghai, China, will lead 12th seeded STJ in the program's first NCAA Tournament Regional match against fifth seeded Southern California on Dec. 7 at the O'Connell Center on the campus of the University of Florida at 4:30 p.m. Huang guided the 13th ranked Red Storm in the first-round home sweep of LIU with a match-high 16 kills and a .556 hitting percentage. The All-BIG EAST First Team member also contributed eight total blocks, including three solo, three digs and one ace. The Red STorm benefited from Huang's on-point hitting in the victory over the Blue Hens the following evening, as she led the squad back from an early 0-1 deficit with a match-high 24 kills on .500 hitting. Huang rounded out her numbers with nine digs, three aces and two blocks. Huang currently leads the league in hitting percentage (.437), the fourth best percentage in the nation. St. John's is second in the nation in kills per game (17.71) and eighth in hitting percentage (.289).
