QUEENS, N.Y. -
Fresh off an exciting championship weekend, in which the St. John's volleyball team took home the BIG EAST Tournament title, the Red Storm progressed two spots to No. 18 in the national CSTV/AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll. This is the second time this season that the volleyball team reached its highest ranking in program history as the team was also No. 18 back on Oct. 1. The Red Storm has been featured in the poll for twelve straight weeks.
St. John's entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and defeated UConn, 3-0 (30-27, 30-16, 30-15), in the quarterfinals. The Red Storm had to play from behind to defeat USF, 3-1, on Friday in the semifinals, losing the first game 29-31, before sweeping the next three 30-17, 30-27, 30-21. The Red Storm faced off against then-No. 21 Louisville in the championship match on Sunday, and defeated the top-seeded Cardinals, 3-0 (30-24, 30-14, 30-26).
The Red Storm awaits its seeding in the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced during a nationally televised selection show on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
