Chestnut Hill, Mass.The St. Johns volleyball team concluded its season with a, 3-0 (30-28, 30-18, 30-28), victory over Boston College in a match played in Power Gymnasium in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Red Storm finish the season at 17-16 overall and 6-7 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles finish 14-18 overall and 3-10 in the BIG EAST.
St. Johns jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, recording a 30-28 game one victory. The game went back and fourth as neither team was able to pull away by more than three points. With the score tied at 28, senior Sarah McCrary (Walnut, Calif.) smashed a kill off the block to set up game point for St. Johns. A Boston College hitting error on the ensuing point secured game one for the Red Storm.
St. Johns took a 2-0 lead with a 30-18 game two victory. St. Johns was in control throughout the game, out hitting the Eagles .259 to -.050. Senior Meaghan Creedon (Rohnert Park, Calif.) was a force in the middle, recording two block solos for the game.
Game three was almost an exact replay of game one. St. Johns closed out the match with a 30-28 game three victory. With the score tied at 28, freshman Yana Ruban (Kiev, Ukraine) smashed a cross-court kill to set up match point. On match point, freshman Jackie Ahlers (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Ruban blocked down a Boston College attack to secure the victory.
Ahlers's 15 kills led the Red Storm attack. McCrary, playing in her final collegiate game, tallied 12 kills and seven digs while fellow senior Creedon finished her career with two kills and two block solos for the match. Junior setter Robyn Kurasaki (Mililani, Hawaii) dished out 36 assists and added 10 digs, while junior Rosalyn Dang (Honolulu, Hawaii) contributed with 13 digs.
