VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO #21 NOTRE DAME, 3-0

JAMAICA, N.Y. Christi Girton and Marcie Bomhack combined for 33 kills to lead the visiting Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a three-game sweep (15-0, 15-9, 15-10) of St. Johns University Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup in Alumni Hall.

The Irish remain undefeated in the conference (17-5, 7-0), while the Storm drop to 21-7, and 4-3 in the league.

Notre Dame was in complete control in the first game and did not surrender a single point to the Storm. In the second game, the Storm did manage a 2-0 lead early, but not before the Irish went on a 6-0 run to assume a 6-2 lead. The Storm rallied later in the game to pull within 13-9, but that would be the closest they would come as Notre Dame closed out the game to go up two games to none.

In the third game, SJU trailed early, but down 7-4, inched back into it and got within 8-7 on a pair of services aces by Olga Roudovski (Brooklyn, N.Y./Sheepshead Bay). Though they were never able to take over the lead, the Storm did close to within 10-7 and 12-10 at points. The Irish were just too powerful and went on to complete the sweep for their third straight BIG EAST win.

Roudovski led the Storm with 11 kills, while senior Amanda Berg (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) added 10, hitting .467.

The Storm return to Alumni Hall tomorrow to host BIG EAST rival Syracuse in an important matchup. The match is slated for 2:00.
