KURASAKI NAMED BIG EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Second Selection for Hawaiian Native

 

 
JAMAICA, N.Y.  Freshman Robyn Kurasaki (Milliani, Hawaii/Maryknoll) of the St. Johns University volleyball team has been named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 8, 2000. This is the second time this season she has earned this honor.

Kurasaki was instrumental in a pair of BIG EAST victories for St. Johns last weekend in Alumni Hall. She led the Red Storm to a four-game victory (16-14, 15-8, 7-15, 15-10) over Boston College on Friday, assisting on 62 of the teams 80 kills. She also added three block assists and eight digs in the win.

Against Providence College on Sunday, Kurasaki helped the Storm avenge a three-game loss to the Friars from last season with a career-high 69 assists. Kurasaki also tallied 18 digs, two kills and two block assists in the four-game victory (12-15, 15-4, 15-9, 15-13).

St. Johns is now 18-4 overall and tied for third with Connecticut with a 3-1 league mark. The Red Storm return to action on Friday, October 13 hosting non-conference foe Dayton at 4:00 in Alumni Hall.
