QUEENS, N.Y. - Red Storm volleyball senior setter Wioleta Leszczynska was named a College Volleyball Update National Setter of the Year Honorable Mention, the organization announced Wednesday.

Leszczynska enjoyed the best season that a Red Storm setter has ever had, garnering an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention. She registered a St. John's single-season record 1,760 assists and her 14.19 assists per game ranked third in the country. The Bielsko-Biala, Poland native recorded a career-high 70 assists on Nov. 17 in the semifinal match of the BIG EAST Tournament against the University of South Florida and was later named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She was named to the All-BIG EAST first team, as well as a BIG EAST Player of the Week on Oct. 1.

The 2007 St. John's volleyball team finished the year ranked No. 13 in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll with a 33-4 overall record. The squad advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Regional Semifinal Round held in Gainesville, Fla. for the first time in program history, where the season came to an end with a hard fought 3-2 loss to the USC Trojans, the eventual Regional Champions.
