Mario Treibit

Position:
Associate Head Coach

Mario Treibit began working with the Red Storm volleyball team in 2000. He is responsible for game day preparations and assisting with recruiting efforts. Treibit also serves as an on court technician and the program's film coordinator.

Treibit has many years of experience coaching men's and women's national teams in the United States, Holland, Israel and Puerto Rico. In 1992, Treibit guided the Dutch men's national team to a silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. As an assistant coach of the U.S. women's national team, he helped the Americans qualify for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, Russia, and four years later helped the U.S. clinch the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Calif.

Treibit's leadership and guidance led to three former players which he coached becoming national team coaches themselves: Ralph Hippolyte, Jacob Hershko, and Jeff Williams.

Treibit is also a former head coach of the men's volleyball team at Rutgers University in Newark. Over his four-year tenure, the Scarlet Raiders had a winning percentage of .976 (41- 1), appeared in two NCAA Division I national semifi nals and won the Eastern Collegiate championship in 1977 and 1980. Treibit was also named the Division I Coach of the Year in 1980. In April 2006, Treibit was inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Fame.

Also a respected official, Treibit has refereed over 250 international matches. Those appointments included serving as the head official at the U.S. Olympic Festival in Los Angeles in 1991, and the head official at the World Military Championship in San Diego in 1994. He was also selected as an offi cial for the Special Olympics World Summer Games in 1995, 1999 and 2003. The games featured over 7,000 participants from all over the world in a variety of events.

Since 2002, Treibit has coached the New York City women's volleyball team to three gold medals (2004, 2005, 2006) and two silver medals (2002, 2003) at the Empire State Games. He is also in his 20th year with the New York Metropolitan Volleyball Association, where Treibit currently serves as president and works with camps and clinics in the Northeast United States and in Europe.

Interestingly, Treibit is the only person in the United States to coach and officiate at the Finals for both the U.S. Open and the NCAA. He's also the only person in the world to earn the highest title in officiating (internationally), and an Olympic medal as a coach.

Treibit has earned dual master's degrees in electrical engineering, and in sports and physical education while in Russia. He is also fluent in five languages (English, Russian, Rumanian, French and Spanish). Treibit currently resides in Flushing, N.Y., with his wife, Tatiana, and their two sons, Alexander (13) and Ronald (11).
