Queens, NY - St. John's University school 200-meter (21.26) and 400-meter (45.88) record holder DeWayne Barrett, running for the Jamaican national team, clocked 21.00 to place seventh in the 200-meter at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Nassau, Bahamas, on July 11.

Barrett made the Jamaican National team after taking fourth in the Jamaican Nationals with his 20.88 clocking in Kingston on June 25. Barrett matched that mark in the heats and then ran a personal best 20.75 in the semifinals to advance to the CAC 200m final. Running in lane one, Barrett chased teammate and 200m winner Usain Bolt across the finish line. Bolt's 20.03 performance is the sixth fastest time in the world and established the meet record.

"DeWayne has had a great summer since graduating in May," St. John's Head Coach Jim Hurt said. "He continues to improve each week and his 20.75 is a big breakthrough for him in the 200m. He has proven he can run well against the best in the World and he will continue to post great efforts as the summer European season continues. We are proud of all the hard work he has put in and the success he has attained at the international level."
