June 29, 2005 Queens, NY - St. John's University track and field standout Kerrian Stewart (Kingston, Jamaica) continued her sterling outdoor track & field season at the Jamaican National Championship in Kingston, Jamaica this week, as she sprinted to a sixth place finish in the 200m, clocking 23.60. "Kerrian and our Alumni had an exceptional weekend at the National Championships," said St. John's track and field head coach Jim Hurt. "Kerrian has made major progress this past year and to place sixth at the Jamaican trials, behind the likes of Olympic Champion Veronica Campbell, indicates her desire and ability to compete with the best athletes in the world." Former St. John's alumnus DeWayne Barrett and Pat Jarrett also placed in the top-ten at the Jamaican nationals, while Chris Graff recorded another top-ten conclusion at the United States National Championships in Los Angeles, CA. In Kingston, Barrett finished in 20.88 seconds to take fourth in the 200m, while Jarrett took sixth in the 100m with a time of 10.30. Barrett also placed ninth in the 400m, finishing in 46.12. At the USA Championships, Graff clocked a time of 28:41.32, to take eighth place in the 10,000m. "DeWayne and Pat are becoming fixtures in the sprint events in Jamaica and Chris has become one of America's elite distance runners," Hurt said. "Our program takes great pride in all that they have accomplished in the sport and their great successes at the national championships this weekend." Senior thrower Blessing Egwu (Queens, NY) will compete in the Nigerian National Championships next month.
