Jamaica, N.Y. – St. John’s senior track & field standout
Alina Abramova (Armavir, Russia) was named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District I Women's Track & Field/Cross Country first team. She moves onto the national ballot, which will be voted on later this month.
Abramova, a fine arts major, carries a 3.85 GPA. On the track, she earned first place finishes at the SJU/Fordham Invite in the long (5.71m) and triple jump (11.99m) during the indoor season. Abramova’s indoor season culminated with a fourth place in the triple jump and eighth place in the long jump at the 2003 BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
During the outdoor season, Abramova earned All-BIG EAST honors by finishing second in the triple jump (12.79m) at the 2003 Outdoor Track & Filed Championships. She recorded a personal best of 12.81m in the triple jump this past weekend at the 2003 NCAA East Regional, placing sixth and narrowly missing the 5th place automatic berth to the NCAA finals by a mere 3/4 of an inch. She is now waiting to hear on the selection of the at-large entrees to the NCAA Championship.
