JAMAICA, N.Y. -- Graduate student Michelle Hickman posted a distance of 12.72 meters in the triple jump, finishing eighth place overall and earning a point for St. John's in the team standings this weekend at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, behing held at the University of Oregon.

Hickman, who joined the Red Storm squad this semester, finished in eighth place overall. She captured the ECAC triple jump championship with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 13.14m earlier this month. At that event, Hickman was the only woman in the competition to jump over 13 meters. For her championship performance, Hickman was named to the All-East team.

She was joined at the Championships by graduate student Nicola Coffey (Meath, Ireland), who finished in 22nd place in the hammer. After fouling on her first attempt, Coffey threw a 55-20 for her finish.

Coffey, the reigning BIG EAST hammer throw champion, took the ECAC hammer championship with a 57.72m mark earlier this month. Though an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, the 18904.00 performance was just off her record setting 19110.00 mark at BIG EAST.
