St. John's Women's Track & Field Captures Metropolitan Championship, Men Finish Second
 

 
Piscataway, NJ - The Red Storm women's track team captured their second straight Metropolitan Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 13, which was held at the Bauer Track on the campus of Rutgers University. The Red Storm men also had a strong showing, placing second behind host Rutgers.Placing first with 253 points, the SJU women had seven individual MET Champions. Sophomore Danielle Eckartz (Malba, NY) won the 5,000m run in a time of 18:37.2, while sophomore Sheba George (Brooklyn, NY) won the shot put with a throw of 14.39m. Freshman Tiehisa Shell (Hollis, NY) won the 100m dash with a time of 12.21, while junior Axum Reid (Capiague, NY) won the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.72. Reid also won the long jump with a distance of 5.57m, while Shell also claimed the 200m dash title. Sophomore Monique Daniels (Queens, NY) won the 400m dash in a time of 55.49, while St. John's won the 100m relay in a time of 47.73 and the 400m relay in a time of 3:47.35.The SJU men placed second with 157 points, while crowning four individual MET Champions. Sophomore Ben Catalano (Carl Place, NY) won the 400m hurdles in a time of 52.02, while sophomore Mariqah Mauer (Woodstock, NY) won the triple jump with a distance of 14.74m. Junior George Maringapasi (Harare, Zimbabwe) won the high jump (2.06m) and the long jump (7.20m).
