St. Johns Track & Field Enjoys Success at the Gatorade Invitational

Miami, Fla.- The St. Johns men and womens track and field team traveled to Miami this weekend to compete in the Gatorade Invitational. The Red Storm continued to have success on the track this outdoor season.Sheba George (Brooklyn, N.Y) earned a first place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.16m. George also added a fourth place finish in the shot put. Assistant coach Michelle Hickman finished second in the triple jump covering a distance of 12.66m. Junior Alina Ambrova (Armavik, Russia) added a fifth place finish in the triple jump for the Red Storm women.

On the track for men, sophomore Mohammed Kanu (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) earned a first placed victory in the 400m dash with a time 48.35 seconds. Graduate Student Jose Zayas (New York, N.Y.), placed second in the 1500m with a time of 3:48.86, while senior Ben Catalano (Carle Place, N.Y.) also finished second in the 400m hurdles.

In the javelin and hammer throw junior Ed Hausdorf (Bellerose, N.Y.) took home second place in each event with tosses of 61.27 and 51.24 respectively. In the shot put, Terrence Buckley (Shoreham, N.Y.) place second and Dietrich Washington (Nashua, N.H.) placed third for the Red Storm.

In the relays, the mens 4x400m team consisting of Kanu, Phil McLean (Bayshore, N.Y.), Damion Kenwood (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Marley Watkins (Coram, N.Y.) finished second with a time of 3:13.19.

The Red Storm track and field teams return home next Saturday April 21 when they host the SJU Classic.
