Goulart and Hyatt-Davis Earned First Place Finishes at Colonial Relays

Jamaica, N.Y. - The St. Johns mens and womens track and field teams traveled to the College of William & Mary, located in Williamsburg, Va., where they competed in the Colonial Relays. The womens team earned their best overall finish of the season, placing fifth with 78.33 points, while the men finished 11th at the meet with 25 points.

Shernette Hyatt-Davis had one of the best performances for St. Johns earning two top three finishes. She finished first 200-meter dash with a time of 24.93, and then placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.82. Sophomore Charline Sealy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished fourth in the 800 meters, clocking a time of 2:15.60.

Junior Judy Williams (Philadelphia, Pa.) also had tow top five finishes, placing second in the 100 meter dash clocking a time of 12.37 and finishing fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.23. Freshman Katy-Dian Reid (Windsor, Conn.) finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.46, and placed fifth in the 400 meters clocking a time of 57.02.

In the throwing events, the women each earned top 10 finishes in multiple events for St. Johns. Sophomore Judy Owens (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 12.63m and again placed fifth in the discus with a mark of 38.68m. Classmate Grace Zollman (Joseph, Ore.) placed fourth in the javelin with a toss of 37.59m.

Freshman Tetee Kuyateh (Providence, R.I.) had one of her best performances to date, finishing fourth in the discus with a mark of 39.05m and sixth in the hammer with a score of 44.78m. Sophomores Blessing Egwu (Queens, N.Y.) and Brandy Bradford (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) each earned top five finishes in the hammer throw. Egwu placed third with a toss of 48.97m and Bradford came in fifth with a mark of 44.95m.

On the mens side, graduate student Jason Goulart (Providence, R.I.) finished first in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.45m.

Juniors Mohammed Kanu (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), Andy Mitchell (Bronx, N.Y.) and Sean Tremblay (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), all earned top ten finishes for the Red Storm. In the 200 meters, Kanu placed ninth with a time of 22.24, in the 800 meters Mitchell also finished ninth at 1:53.26 and Tremblay rounded out the three with a seventh place finish in the steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:40.82.

The men also earned two fourth place finishes in the 4x100 medley relay at 42.06 and in the distance medley with a time of 10:09.44.

The St. Johns mens and womens track and field teams return to action on April 11, when they begin competition at the Metropolitan Championships.
