Jamaica, N.Y. - This past weekend the St. Johns mens and womens indoor track and field teams traveled the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Massachusetts to compete in the 2003 IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships. The men earned an impressive 14th place finish out of 105 teams, while the women finished 45th out of 85 teams.
On the mens side junior Dewayne Barrett (Brooklyn, N.Y.) broke his own record of 47.29 in the 400 meters at the Collegiate Invite held in February, clocking a new St. Johns record of 47.06, finishing fourth, as well as qualifying for the NCAA Championships held later this month. Also setting a personal best was graduate student Jason Goulart (Providence, R.I.) who earned a sixth place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 18.06m. The mens 4x400 relay team of Ben Catalano (Carle Place, N.Y.), Andy Mitchell (Bronx, N.Y.), Kanu and Barrett finished fourth with a time of 3:10.79. On the womens side junior Alina Abramova (Armavir, Russia) earned a seventh place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 404 =.
