April 16, 2005 April 16, 2005, Queens, NY - The St. John's University women's track and field team placed second at the 2005 Metropolitan Championships this afternoon at DaSilva Memorial Field. The Red Storm totaled 108.50 points in the two day meet. Graduate student Kerrian Stewart took first place in both the 100m with a time of 12.26 and in the 200m at 24.68. Teammate Aleica Sewell took third in the 100m right behind Stewart at 12.66. Tarashon Broomes finished first in her heat and sixth overall in the 400m with a time of 58.78. In the relay events, St. John's took two third place finishes in both the 4x100m (49.53) and DMR (12:31.77). St. John's record holder Jodey Johnson placed third in the 3000m steeplechase with a come behind sprint during the last 200m to cross the line at 11:34.09. Johnson also placed in the 5000m run, coming in fourth with a time of 18:17.07. Jasmine Barreto competed in the 1500m, coming in ninth at 4:47.97. Blessing Egwu placed second in the shot put, closely behind Cycerli Ash of Rutgers at 13.73m. In the long jump, Kellie Brown took third place with a distance of 5.60m, while Julie Georges finished in fourth place at 5.57m. Brown also placed in the triple jump coming in fifth with a distance of 11.51m. The Red Storm returns to action this Friday, April 22, when they will compete in the New York Relays in New York, NY.
