St. John's Wins Seven Events At Monday Meeting Part II

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's track & field posted six individual and one relay win at its second spring series event on Monday evening on DaSilva Memorial Field.

Starting off the evening, sophomore Asia Davy was the lone competitor for the Red Storm in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. She finished with a time of 1:05.84.

The St. John's 4x100-meter relay outran the squad from Iona with a time of 51.19 for another first place finish for the Red Storm.

Then, in the following race, the 1,500-meter run, junior Rakibat Abiola, freshman Kayla Regulski and freshman Laura Walsh placed in the top three with times of 5:17.02, 5:32.46 and 5:40.45, respectively. Abiola also came in second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.49.

Freshman Priscilla Frederick placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.86 seconds. Sophomore Brianna Drexler finished two spots behind her, with a third place time of 16.91 seconds.

The Red Storm ran five athletes in the 400-meter dash, but freshmen Kim Piard, Shakira Best and Sarah Sudbury crossed the tape for St. John's, finishing third through fifth, respectively.

In the 200-meter dash, junior Phobay Kutu-Akoi finished second with a time of 25.10 seconds, .06 seconds away from the BIG EAST qualifying time. Freshman Rene Cousins and Kate Dulmovits came in fourth and fifth behind Kutu-Akoi and Davy and freshman Lauren Wynter followed at seventh and eighth.

 

 

In field events, freshman Rachel Williams finished first in the shot put with a distance of 11.24 meters. Frederick and senior Dominique Eason placed second and third, with throws of 10.24 meters and 10.08 meters, respectively. Freshman Courtney Kolinsky came in fifth.

Junior Marie Griffths was the last even winner for the Red Storm, finishing first in the triple jump with a distance of 10.15 meters.

The Red Storm track & field team will be back in action on Saturday, April 19 at the Metropolitan Championships. The meet will take place in Rutherford, N.J., exact location to be announced.
