Saturday, April 9, Clemson, SC -- The St. John's University track and field team gave an outstanding performance this afternoon at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, SC. The Red Storm competed against several top programs in the southeast including Georgia, Georgia Tech, Western Carolina, Virginia Tech and Clemson. Graduate student Kerrian Stewart had another great meet, placing first in both the 200m at 23.94 and 400m, in which she finished with a NCAA Regional qualifying time of 54.18. Stewart was also a member of the third place 4x400m (3:55.21) team along with teammates Alecia Sewell, Vanessa Sessa and Kay-Dian Reid. Reid placed fourth in the 400m with a time of 55.87, just missing the NCAA Regional qualifying time. In the distance events, newcomer Jodey Johnson placed first in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:26.93, an event she has finished first in during her last two attempts. Junior Jasmine Barreto placed seventh in the 800m at 2:19.75 and fifth in the 1500m at 4:50.86. The St. John's throwing unit was led by Blessing Egwu when she placed fourth in the hammer throw with a NCAA Regional qualifying distance of 58.58m. Egwu also placed seventh in the shot put at 12.89m. Grace Zollman placed within the top finishers in the javelin with a distance of 40.96m. In other field events, Kellie Brown placed sixth in the long jump finals at 5.61m..
The Red Storm returns to action this Friday, April 15, when they will host the Metropolitan Championships at DaSilva Memorial Field. |
