Johana Kernizan begins her first season as the practice manager for the Red Storm. The St. John's senior hails from Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School where she helped lead her team to an indoor championship both her junior and senior years and an outdoor title her junior season.
Kernizan has been a member of the Red Storm track and field team for the past two seasons as a sprinter and jumper. As a sophomore in 2005-06, Kernizan's best performances included a mark of 13 feet, 3.5 inches in the long jump at the Kangaroo Invitational and a 9.1 second performance in the 60-meter dash at the Fordham Christmas Classic. At the 2007 Outdoor Metropolitan Championships, Kernizan placed 23rd in the long jump with a distance of 13 feet 11.3 inches.
Kernizan is the daughter of Marie and Jean Kernizan and has two brothers, Gamelin and Ronsard and one sister, Sabena. She is a biology major at St. John's University.
