John Honerkamp enters his fourth year as an assistant coach of the Red Storm. Honerkamp acts as the recruiting coordinator and focuses on the mid- and long-distance runners, including the 2008 4x800-meter relay squad who earned All-East honors at the outdoor ECAC Championships and All-BIG EAST accolades at the Outdoor BIG EAST Championships.

A 1998 St. John's graduate, Honerkamp ran for the Red Storm from 1993-98. He was an eight-time All-BIG EAST and six-time All-East (IC4A) runner. He earned BIG EAST All-Academic accolades 12 times, and became the youngest semifinalist at the U.S. Olympic Trials for the 800-meter run in 1996.

After graduation, Honerkamp ran professionally for the Reebok Enclave Track Club from the fall of 1998 through January of 2001. In February of that year, Honerkamp began running for the New York Athletic Club, which he still runs for today.

Honerkamp is an eight-time top-10 finisher at the United States Track & Field Senior Nationals. He is also a member of the American record-holding 1,500-meter relay team. His top performances include running the mile in 4:01.3, the 1,500-meter in 3:41.58, the 800-meter in 1:47.26 and the 400-meters in 47.7 (relay split).

Prior to coaching at St. John's, Honerkamp was a volunteer assistant for Chaminade High School in Mineola, N.Y. and was an assistant coach in 2001 for Episcopal High School in Arlington, Va. He has been a camp-counselor at The Running School in upstate New York for nine years, coaching some of top high school athletes in the country.

Currently, Honerkamp is pursuing his MBA at St. John's.
