Jamaica, N.Y. - The St. Johns womens tennis team lost its first match of the season on Wednesday, September 27, to Hofstra, 2-6.

At No. 2 singles, junior Vera Efstathoiu defeated Vesna Jausic, 6-4, 6-2. The only other SJU singles player to win her match was Carolina Miccolis, who beat Jennifer Freedman, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.

The Red Storm hopes to gain its first victory of the season against Villanova on October 6 at the National Tennis Center.
