Jamaica, N.Y.- St. John’s University announces the hiring of
Gemma Alexander-Mozeak as the Red Storm head women’s tennis coach. Alexander-Mozeak is a 1988 graduate of St. John’s, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts with a double major of Politics/Government and Theology. On the court, she co-captain and was named most valuable player in 1987 for the Red Storm, earning All-BIG EAST and All-Academic honors.
After graduation, Alexander-Mozeak worked as management specialist for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Devolvement, a Special Assistant to Deputy Commissioner for the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal, and a project assistant for Governor Cuomo’s Youth Drug Prevention Campaign. She has been working for the past 12 years at Gem Enterprises where most recently served as the Director of Tennis for Durham Parks and Recreation and Assistant Director of Tennis at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has also worked as a U.S.TA. teaching professional for several years.
Alexander-Mozeak has extensive coaching experience to her credit as well, serving as the Hunter College head men’s and women’s tennis coach and most recently coaching the 2002-03 Fordham women’s tennis team.
The St. John’s women’s tennis team finished the 2003 season with a 3-7 overall and 2-5 record in the BIG EAST. The team was involved in several close matches and has set lofty goals for the 2003-04 season. Alexander-Mozeak takes over the helm in 2003-04 ready to lead the Red Storm back to BIG EAST prominence.
