QUEENS, N.Y. -
The St. John's women's tennis team earned the No. 7 seed at the 2008 BIG EAST Tennis Championships, the conference announce Monday. This is the fourth straight season that the squad has qualified for the postseason tournament, as the team finished in eleveth place during the 2007 Championships. The tournament will take place this weekend in Tampa, Fla. on the campus of the University of South Florida.
The Red Storm finished the regular season on a seven-match winning streak and boasts a 10-10 overall record and a 4-3 mark in BIG EAST play. The squad will take on the tenth-seeded West Virginia Mountaineers (14-8, 4-2 BIG EAST) in the opening round on Thursday at 9 a.m. on USF's Varsity Courts. The winner of that match will go on to face the No. 2 seed Louisville Cardinals in the first round on Friday at 9 a.m.
