Tennis Beats Seton Hall, 4-3 in BIG EAST Play

Jamaica, N.Y. - The St. Johns womens tennis traveled to Seton Hall this afternoon for a BIG EAST conference match-up against the Pirates, beating them, 4-3. The Red Storm improve to 3-3 overall, and 2-2, in conference play.

In #1 doubles, senior Nataliya Kostova (Sophia, Bulgaria) and sophomore Kristina Bothova (Bratislava, Slovakia) won their match 8-5, over Emelie Akerbrant and Viviana Figueroa. Sophomore Tessa Woodruff (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and freshman Lauren Lorenzetti (Northfield, N.J.) won their #2 doubles match, 8-4, over Kim Barfuss and Lorell Zamot.

In the singles matches, Kostova won her #1 singles match in two sets, 6-1, 6-3 over Barfuss. Also winning their matches were Bothova, out of the #2 spot, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, beating Akerbrant and Woodruff, playing #4 singles, defeating Zamot, 6-4, 6-4.

The tennis team returns to action on Saturday, March 29, when they host conference rival UConn beginning at 1 p.m.
