Jamaica, N.Y. St. Johns womens tennis (1-2 overall, 1-1 BIG EAST) dropped a match to Syracuse, 7-0 on a Friday, March 1 at Alley Pond Tennis Center.
St. Johns sophomores Nataliya Kostova (Bulgaria/Bethune-Cookman College) and Olga Romanidis (Kew Gardens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) each played hard fought single matches that went the three set distance. Kostova, playing at the number one spot, competed extremely well in a tough singles loss to Syracuses Masha Kaboanova 3-6,6-3,3-6omanidis, playing at No. 5, also went the distance in a loss to Syracuses Jessica Schlosser 0-6, 6-4,1-6. Head coach Kyle Copeland was happy with way that Kostova and Romanidis competed in tough losses. Coach said We are getting better and better with each tough match that we play. The Red Storm womens tennis team returns to action on Friday, March 8 when they play host to Seton Hall University. The team then travels on Saturday, March 9 to play at Princeton University.
