Jamaica, N.Y. - The St. Johns womens tennis team competed this weekend at the Alley Pond Tennis Center where they beat the University of Albany by a 7-0 margin.
St. Johns dominated Albany at seemingly all the positions. In the singles matches it was a clean sweep winning all six matches in straight sets. Though the match of the day came from junior Olga Romanidis (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.), who found herself down 5-1 in the first set and came back and won 12 straight games in the six spot to earn the victory. In doubles play, the teams of Kristina Bothova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Nataliya Kostova (Sophia, Bulgaria) and Vera Efstathiou (Whitestone, N.Y.) and Romanidis both won their matches by scores of 8-2, and 8-1, respectively. The St. Johns womens tennis team returns to action on Saturday, February 22, when they travel to Georgetown University where they will square off against BIG EAST opponent Pittsburgh.
