St. Johns Womens Tennis Captures First Win of Season over Adelphi, 4-3

Bronx, N.Y. - The St. Johns University womens tennis team managed its first win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Adelphi. This is the Red Storms first win since April 8, 2000 when they defeated Pace, 8-0.

No. 1 singles player Corina Cetateanu (Forest Hills, N.Y. / Forest Hills HS) easily downed Nicole DAnna, 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 singles player Vera Efstathiou (Whitestone, NY / Cardozo HS) defeated Leigh Fennesy, 6-3, 6-1. For St. Johns third singles win, Carolina Miccolis (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil / Colesio Unico) beat Tori Angulo, 6-3, 6-1.

Playing No. 3 singles, newcomer Olga Romanidis (Kew Gardens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) battled Tashi Sharma before dropping the match 6-4, 7-6.

In a back and forth battle, Cetateanu and Efstathious emerged with the win over DAnna and Sharma, 8-4. Romanidis and Miccolis notched their first win as a doubles team, easily defeating Fennesy and Angulo, 8-2.

St. Johns record improves to 1-5 and 0-1 in the conference. The Red Storm returns to action February 23 when they travel to Jersey City to take on St. Peters.
