Women's Tennis Beats Providence for Second-Straight 7-0 Sweep

Providence, RI - The success of the St. John's women's tennis team continued this afternoon, as the Red Storm swept the Providence Friars 7-0 in a BIG EAST match. The win was the second-straight 7-0 sweep in BIG EAST action for the Red Storm, and the second in as many days. St. John's improves to 9-4 overall.

After winning all three doubles matches to take the first point, St. John's dropped only two games in all of the singles action en route to the 7-0 final.

Hande Gorur and Allison Davidson teamed up at No. 1 and won 8-2, while Lauren Leo and Mariana Chachua played at No. 3 and won by the same score to win the first point. Kristina Bothova and Barbora Blahutiakova played at the No. 2 spot and won their match 8-1.

Blahutiakova, Leo, Davidson, Gorur and Chachua each swept their respective singles matches, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. After winning her first set 6-2, Bothova didn't drop a game in the second set of her No. 2 match, to complete the overall sweep for the Red Storm.

St. John's will close out the BIG EAST regular season with a match against Villanova, scheduled for Tuesday, April 19.
