The St. John's women's tennis team continued its roll over conference opponents, this time beating Rutgers 7-0 at Crocheron Park in Bayside, Queens. St. John's improves to 8-4 on the season. St. John's swept the singles matches after collecting the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Kristina Bothova and Barbora Blahutiakova opened up action with a quick 8-1 win over Lauren Edelschein and Helen Magomedova at the No. 3 spot. Hande Gorur and Allison Davidson were edged out 8-6 at No. 1, leaving the point up for grabs with the No. 2 match-up still on the court. Lauren Leo and Mariana Chachua battled back and forth with Alina Balasa and Anela Dujsic, until Leo and Chachua put the tight match away, 9-8, for giving the Red Storm a 1-0 advantage. Behind the momentum of the doubles win, St. John's cruised through six-straight wins in singles action, kicked off by a win at the No. 5 spot by Davidson. Gorur won handily at the No. 4 position, topping Magomedova 6-2, 6-0 and Bothova put the match away with an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Dujsic at No. 2. At No, 1, Blahutiakova beat Katrina Elder-Bush 6-3, 6-2 and Leo beat Balasa 6-4, 6-2 before Chachua closed out the match with a win at No. 6. The Red Storm will return to action on Saturday, April 16 at Providence.
