Women's Tennis Streak Snapped at Five, Red Storm Fall 5-2 at Syracuse

Syracuse, N.Y. - The St. John's women's tennis team fell to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the BIG EAST this afternoon after a 5-2 loss to Syracuse at Drumlins Tennis Club snapped a five-match Red Storm winning streak. The Orangewomen improve to 6-11 overall.

Syracuse swept all three of the doubles matches to take the first point of the afternoon. At No. 1, senior Trine Lise Juliussen and sophomore Wei-Ming Leong defeated Hande Gorur and Lauren Leo, 8-5. Jessica Schlosser and Marion Charlier defeated Jennifer Liantonio and Kristina Bothova, 8-6, at No. 3, and Carolina Huignard and Ashley Lipton defeated Allison Davidson and Lauren Lorenzetti, 9-7, at No. 2.

In singles, Juliussen won her No. 1 match, 6-0, 6-4, against Gorur to put SU up 2-0. Bothova fell to Lipton, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 to give the Orange a 3-0 lead. The Red Storm earned their first point of the day when Davidson defeated Schlosser, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot, and Leo's win at No. 4 (6-4, 6-4) pulled St. John's within one, but Leong sealed the Syracuse win with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Lorenzetti in the fourth spot. Charlier gave Syracuse its fifth and final point with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Liantonio at No. 6.

The Red Storm will return to the Courts at St. John's on Wednesday when continue their run for the BIG EAST Tournament against Seton Hall.
