New York, NY - The Red Storm women's tennis team edged BIG EAST foe Seton Hall 4-3 this afternoon in a match at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center at Columbia University. With the win, the Red Storm improve to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Pirates fall to 7-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Seton Hall started the match strong, claiming the first point with two wins in doubles action. Sophomores Ebru Burduroglu and Jennifer Seide topped Barbora Blahutiakova and Mariana Chachua at No. 2, 8-5, and Catalina Isaza and Lorell Zamot posted their 10th consecutive doubles victory with a 9-8 decision over Kristina Bothova and Allison Davidson at No. 3. In singles, the Pirates registered two straight-set victories at No. 1 and No. 5, as junior Viviana Figueroa cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Blahutiakova at No. 1 and Isaza notched a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Chachua in the No. 5 slot. The Red Storm rallied back and took points at No. 2, 3, 4 and 6 for the come-from-behind win. Bothova outbattled Bruduroglu in three sets, winning 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2. Lauren Leo and Davidson followed with three-set wins of their own at No. 3 and 4. Leo topped Nadja Sein 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 and Davidson came back after dropping the first set 3-6 and won the second two 6-3 and 6-4 to clinch the win for St. John's. The Red Storm will return to action at the Old Dominion Tournament, which begins on March 24. ST. JOHN'S 4, SETON HALL 3
