Roanoke, Va. Freshman pitcher Meghan Allman (San Diego, Calif.) earned BIG EAST All-Rookie Team honors, it was announced by the Conference last night at the BIG EAST Softball Championships being held May 9-11 in Salem, Va. Voting was conducted among the leagues 11 head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

With the Red Storms need for starting pitching, Allman was forced to pitch in all but three games this season. In the process, Allman has rewritten the St. Johns single season record books. She compiled a 21-27 record with a 1.90 ERA, and along the way posted three no-hitters and 13 shutouts. This season, she set school records for wins (21), strikeouts (267), innings pitched (331.0), appearances (52) and complete games (43), including the previously mentioned three no-hitters and shutouts. At one stretch during the season, Allman pitched 50 consecutive innings without earning an earned run.

With Allman and the return of redshirt pitcher Courtney Fitzgerald next season, the Red Storm hope to return to the BIG EAST Championship.
