JAMAICA, N.Y.- St. Johns University junior Anthony DeRosa (Salem, N.H.) and senior Alesha Argeras (Warren, Ohio) were selected to the Verizon Academic All-District I baseball and softball teams respectively. As first-team honorees, DeRosa and Argeras will both advance to the national ballot.
DeRosa, a sports management major with a 3.53 GPA, is currently second on the team in hitting, batting .340, with 50 hits, including 13 doubles and two triples. He ranks eleventh in the BIG EAST in doubles and leads the Red Storm in home runs with 6. Last season, DeRosa batted .326 and hit a team-best six home runs as a sophomore. DeRosa has started all but 2 of the Red Storms 45 games and has helped guide them to a 25-24 overall record and 9-11 in the BIG EAST. St. Johns returns to action this weekend as they host a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday against Boston College. The first pitch for Saturdays game is scheduled for noon. Argeras, a mathematics major with a 3.89 GPA, led the Red Storm softball team to a 30-28 overall record in her final season. Argeras was selected to the All-BIG EAST second team after batting .294 with seven home runs and 28 RBI on the year. Argeras seven home runs led the team and set a single season total that ranks second all-time in Red Storm softball history. Argeras .479 slugging percentage and .368 on base percentage ranked second on the team.
