Uniondale, NY - On April 19, the Red Storm (23-19, 6-4 BE) faced the Jaspers of Manhattan College (14-23) in a non-conference match-up. St. John's defeated Manhattan College by a score of 2-1.
Sophomore Lisa Tropea led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alesha Argeras. Sophomore Tiffany Howerton reached on a fielders choice as Tropea advanced to third. Sophomore Ann Raab singled home Tropea to record her team leading 26th RBI of the season. Sophomore Marilyn Brown reached first on an error by the first baseman, Julie Geden, giving enough time for Howerton to cross the plate for a 2-0 lead. The Jaspers managed to get a run back in the top of the sixth, but couldn't get any closer. Junior Gina Calabrese struck out eight and hurled her 19th complete game of the season to improve her record to 16-9. With this win Calabrese breaks a 12 year old record to own the most wins in a season for St. John's University.
