Pitching Coach

At. St. John's:
First Season

Courtney Fitzgerald enters her first season as the pitching coach at St. John's. She will take over the day-to-day activities of the St. John's pitching staff, including its physical conditioning, daily pitching programs, game day preparation and in-game strategy.

Fitzgerald moves onto the coaching staff after finishing her playing career as one of the all-time bests pitchers in school history. She currently is the school's all-time career leader in wins (59), shutouts (21), innings pitched (711.2) and games started (102), while also ranking in the top-five in strikeouts and complete games.

A second team All-BIG EAST and first team NFCA Division I Mid-Atlantic Region selection last year, Fitzgerald led the Red Storm pitching staff, posting a 17-5 record with a 1.55 ERA. She held opponents to a .197 batting average, while striking out 147 batters in 144.2 innings pitched.

In 2003, Fitzgerald made an impressive return from wrist surgery that kept her out of the 2002 season. She led the team with a 18-15 record and three saves, while posting a 1.76 ERA. Aside from leading the team in the majority of the pitching categories, Fitzgerald lead the BIG EAST in innings pitched, appearances, saves and complete games.

As a sophomore in 2001, Fitzgerald started 28 games, compiling a 16-14 record with 142 strikeouts and 26 complete games. In her first season at St. John's, she appeared in only 22 games, posting an 8-11 record and a 2.26 ERA. On April 24, she set BIG EAST record for innings pitched in a single game with 21 against Seton Hall.

Prior to St. John's, she was a standout at Mary Louis Academy, where she was named Player of the Year for New York City by the Daily News and Player of the Year for Queens by Newsday. She led Mary Louis to the NY CHSAA state and city championships in 1998.
