JAMAICA, N.Y.  Seven of St. Johns Universitys soccer players were recently named to the NSCAA/adidas Northeast Regional Soccer Team. Chris Wingert of the mens team and Courtney Rett from the womens team both received first team honors. Bill Gaudette and Rich Bradley established second team honors while Pat Lonergan, Chris Corcoran and Kaitlin Schmidt were each named third team for the Red Storm.Junior back Chris Wingert (Babylon, N.Y. was elected to first team after an outstanding season as a member of the Red Storm squad. Wingert finished fifth on the team in scoring, with three goals and two assists for eight points. Prior to being named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, Wingert was named to the Verizon Academic All-America Men's Soccer University Division team.Junior goalkeeper Bill Gaudette (Hummelstown, PA) and senior defender Rich Bradley (Bayport, N.Y.) were each named to the second team after a tremendous season for both. Gaudette started all 21 games this season for the Red Storm and finished with 56 saves on the season for 0.45 goals against average and 11 shutouts. Gaudette was also a third-team Verizon Academic All-American selection this season. Teammate Rich Bradley closed out the 2002 season third on the Red Storms scoring list with four goals and seven assists for fifteen points. Bradley also led the team in game winning goals with both coming against UConn. Both Gaudette and Bradley received second team BIG EAST honors.Senior back Patrick Lonergan (Millington, N.J) and teammate, sophomore forward Chris Corcoran (Marshfield, Mass.) represent the Red Storm as members of the third team. Lonergan was named Third Team Academic All-American earlier this season and played a vital role in the Red Storms success this season. Corcoran closed out the 2002 season finishing second on the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for fifteen points.

The men finished their season on December 1st with a 1-0 loss to Creighton in the Sweet Sixteen round of the NCAA Tournament and closed out 2002 with an overall record of 13-3-5.

For the women, junior defender Courtney Rett (Valley Stream, N.Y. was selected first team after an outstanding season for St. Johns. Rett finished the season third on the team in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine points. Earlier this year, Rett took home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades in addition to being named to Soccer Buzz Americas Elite Team two times in 2002. Rett also played a central role in helping St. Johns capture the 2002 ECAC Championship.
