Nov. 24, 2003 Jamaica, N.Y. - The St. John's University women's soccer team, coached by Ian Stone, has received the 2002-03 NSCAA Team Academic Award, presented to the men's and women's soccer teams who posted a combined GPA of 3.0 or better during the 2002-03 academic school year. The Red Storm, who finished 9-9-1 overall this season, were one of 336 intercollegiate soccer programs nationwide (71 men, 265 women) to earn Team Academic honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, it was announced this week. The Red Storm women's soccer team, who qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament with a third place finish in the Northeast Division, posted a combined team grade-point average of 3.35. The St. John's men's soccer team was also recognized for its team grade-point average of 3.16.
St. John's was one of only 48 schools across the country to have both its men's and women's team both earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards.
