Hoyas Slip By Red Storm, 1-0 in Overtime

Jamaica, N.Y. The St. Johns University womens soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to Georgetown University in overtime this afternoon at Belson Stadium. The Red Storm fall to 9-5-4 on the season, while the Hoyas improve to 10-6-0.

One minute and 23 seconds in the first overtime period, Georgetowns Elizabeth Roberti sent a blast to the upper left corner of the net for the gamewinner. Nicole DePalma found Roberti in front of the net for the assist on the goal.

Junior defender Courtney Rett (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the Red Storm attack this afternoon. In the second half, Rett sent a rocket from about 30 yards out that sent the Hoyas goalkeeper to the back of the net.

The first half was a physical back and forth battle between the teams. The Hoyas earned three shots on goal in the first 45:00 minutes, with goalkeeper Tina Fogg (Warwick, R.I.) making three well-earned saves.

Georgetown outshot the Red Storm, 14 to 6. Fogg made six saves on the day, while Alexis George made three stops for the Hoyas.

The Red Storm return to action on Sunday, November 3 when they face No. 8 West Virginia in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament. Kickoff in Morgantown, W.Va. is slated for 2 p.m.
