Jamaica, N.Y. Three St. Johns University womens soccer players were honored by the BIG EAST Conference for their performance in helping lead the Red Storm to a 2-0-1 week. On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the Red Storm recorded their first-ever win over Rutgers University with a 1-0 shutout. St. Johns shut down Seton Hall, 1-0, on Friday, Oct. 18 for the first time since 1994. The Red Storm concluded their week with a 1-1 tie at No. 14 Villanova.
In the latest NSCAA/adidas poll, St. Johns is ranked seventh in the Northeast region.
Sophomore forward Dominica Reina (Frankfort, N.Y.) earned BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for her work notching both game-winning goals for the Red Storm last week. She scored St. Johns only goals in wins over Rutgers and Seton Hall. Reina now has 11 goals, including five game-winners, on the season. Reina becomes the first Red Storm player to score 11 goals or more since the 1994 season. Junior defender Courtney Rett (Valley Stream, N.Y.) took home BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week accolades for helping the Red Storm to a 2-0-1 record last week. Rett and the Red Storm defense earned two shutouts and allowed just 11 shots in wins over Rutgers and Seton Hall. In St. Johns 1-1 tie with No. 14 Villanova, Rett recorded the game-tying goal. Senior goalkeeper Tina Fogg (Warwick, R.I.) went undefeated last week and was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. She allowed just one goal in 290 minutes of action. Fogg earned two shutouts in 1-0 wins over Rutgers and Seton Hall. She allowed her only goal of the week in a 1-1 tie with No. 14 Villanova, while making a career-high 15 saves. With two shutouts last week, Fogg became the all-time leader in career shutouts in St. Johns history.
The Red Storm (8-4-4, 2-3) conclude their regular season schedule with two home games this weekend. On Friday, October 25 at 4:00pm, St. Johns hosts Virginia Tech in a Northeast Division matchup. Georgetown comes to town on Sunday, October 27 for a 1:00pm kickoff with the Red Storm.
