Red Storm Ninth in NSCAA/adidas Regional Rankings

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The St. John’s University women’s soccer team is tied for ninth on the NSCAA/adidas Northeast Regional poll, released today.

The Red Storm enter the rankings for the first time this season after beating Boston College, who were ranked 20th in the Nation and second on the NSCAA poll, and Providence this past weekend in BIG EAST action. At 7-7-1 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST Northeast division, St. John’s is currently in first place in the league.

The Red Storm are tied in the rankings with Harvard, who, at 4-3-4, beat New Hampshire and tied Cornell this past week.

St. John’s has been led by Kaitlin Schmidt (Centereach, N.Y.), who has a team-best 16 points on the season. Schmidt knocked in the game-winner as the Red Storm upset the BC Eagles on Sunday, for her fourth score of the season. She is also tied for first among BIG EAST leaders and tied for 10th in the Nation with a team-high eight assists on the season. Freshman Natasha Lee (Albuquerque, N.M.) leads St. John’s with six goals this season.

The Red Storm will close out the 2003 regular season with games against Monmouth, Connecticut, ranked #1 on the NSCAA/adidas regional rankings, and Central Connecticut who are ranked third on this week’s NSCAA poll.
