RED STORM HOLD OFF HAWKS

West Long Branch, NJ Jaime Clark had two assists and Erin Zambelli netted one goal and dished out one assist as the Red Storm defeated the Monmouth Hawks, 3-0, at the Great Lawn at Monmouth University this afternoon. Clarks two assists put her as the all-time assist leader in the St. Johns womens soccer program with 25 career assists, a mark set in 1997 by Jen Contesini.

The Red Storm (9-6-0, 1-4-0 BIG EAST) opened up scoring early in the first half. Clark (Massaqequa, NY/Massapequa) lauched a shot from 10 yards out that the Hawks goalkeeper saved. Zambelli (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem) took the rebound and beat the keeper to the left, putting the Red Storm ahead, 1-0.

In the second half, the Red Storm out-shot the Hawks, 11-3, finding the net twice more. Marissa Stork (Flushing, NY/St. Francis Prep) netted her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Heather Cook (Seattle, WA/Seattle Lutheran) stole the ball from the Monmouth midfield and drove the ball toward goal, passing to Stork for the score at the 80:25 mark. Three minutes and twenty seconds later, freshman Sarah Minnich (Wilton, CT/Wilton HS) sealed St. Johns scoring with her third goal of the season, converting a pass from Clark after a scramble in the box. The Red Storm outshot the Hawks (7-4-1, 4-1-1 NEC) 11-3 in the half.

Tina Fogg (Warwick, RI/Warwick Veterans Memorial) earned her fourth win of the season and second shutout with the win. She had four saves in 90:00 of work.

St. Johns will resume action on Monday, October 16th at 3:00 p.m. at Manhattan College.
