Jamaica, NY - The St. John's women's soccer team (6-3-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST), was defeated today by the Miami Hurricanes (6-3-0, 2-1-0 BIG EAST), 2-1, at DaSilva Memorial Field. With the loss, the women's soccer team still looks for their first win against a BIG EAST opponent this season.
The Red Storm opened up scoring in the 34th minute. Lisa Rinaldi (Montreal, Canada/St. Leonard) took a corner kick which Marissa Stork (Flushing, NY/St. Francis Prep) put in the back of the net from five yards out. Miami evened the score at 42:51 when Jennifer Sanchez scored her first of two goals. Sanchez took a through ball from Nicole Safran to knot the game at one. After the break, the Hurricanes struck again. This time, Sanchez broke away with the ball on a feed by Ashley West for the game-winner.
The Red Storm take to the road to face BIG EAST Northeast Divisional Rival Boston College on Sunday, September 24th at noon. They will return to DaSilva Memorial Field on Tuesday, September 26th hosting Siena at 7:30 p.m.
