September 9, 2001, Binghamton, NY -- St. John's played inspired soccer for 118:59 minutes of this afternoon's 1-0 double-overtime loss to Binghamton, as the Red Storm dominated play but couldn't find the net to fall to 1-3 on the young season.
Binghamton's Mary Fazio scored with 1:01 to play in the final overtime to beat SJU goalkeeper Tina Fogg, who had a strong performance turning back six Bearcat shots in a well played game by both teams. Bearcats goalie Lauren Cherry stoped seven shots to record the shutout. St. John's outshot Binghamton 23-12 and had two shots by Erin Zambelli hit the goal post in the first half. Zambelli led SJU with six shots on goal before leaving late in the second half with a leg injury. The Red Storm also had 16 corner kicks to the Bearcats two. Great performances were also turned in by Dominica Reina and Lisa Kaczmarski who had three shots each and Courtney Rhett, Karyn Lundgren and Joanna Dawson pitched in with two shots apiece. The defense also rose to the occasion as Jen Taylor, Pristina Alford and midfielder Jen Pugsley all turned in stellar efforts in defeat.
The Red Storm return to action this Friday, September 14 when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers in a BIG EAST clash at 7:30 p.m.
