St. Johns Womens Soccer Inks Three High School
All-Americans for 2003

 

 
Jamaica, N.Y.  St. Johns head womens soccer coach Ian Stone has announced the signing of six student-athletes for the upcoming 2003 season. The following student-athletes have agreed to attend St. Johns University and play soccer next season: Holly Ryder, Plantation, Florida; Natasha Lee, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Erinn Flaherty, Clifton Park, New York; Ellen Hartman, St. Paul, Minnesota; Erin Bohn, Mission Viejo, California; and Cami Katz, Ocean City, New Jersey.

Ryder is a center midfielder who will be transferring from the University of Kansas. As a freshman, she helped lead the Jayhawks to a 11-7-2 record and their third straight postseason appearance. One of the most highly decorated soccer players from Florida, Ryder helped American Heritage High School to three state championships from 2000-02. Her team was ranked No. 1 in the state of Florida and No. 2 in the nation as she earned Player of the Year honors from the Miami Herald and the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel in 2002. A four-time All-County honoree, Ryder was named a 2002 McDonalds/Powerade High School All-American as well as a NSCAA High School All-American. After scoring a school record 228 career goals, American Heritage retired Ryders jersey. She was also a member of the Florida Olympic Development Team from 1999-2002.

Lee is an NSCAA/adidas High School All-American forward from Sandia High School. A standout athlete in New Mexico, Lees resume includes NSCAA/adidas New Mexico Player of the Year, Gatorade New Mexico Player of the Year, Albuquerque Tribune Player of the Year and Albuquerque Sports Hall of Fame Female Athlete of the Year. A three-time First Team All-State, All-District and All-Metro honoree, Lee led New Mexicos 5A in goals with 30 and was named the 5A Player of the Year. During her career at Sandia, she scored 95 goals and dished out 31 assists, being named Offensive Player four straight times. She is also a five-year member of the New Mexico State ODP team and played in the same Region IV pool as current Red Storm player, Andrea Coukoulis.

Flaherty is a midfielder from Shenendehowa High School, who earned NSCAA/adidas High School All-American honors in 2002 as well as being named NY State Section II Player of the Year. A five-year member of the Eastern NY North ODP team, Flaherty has been named to the New York All-State team for three consecutive seasons. In 2001 she helped lead Shenendehowa to a 22-1-0 record, the Section II Class Championship and the state semifinals. Flahertys club team, Clifton Park Premier, was 2000 Eastern NY State Cup finalists.

Hartman is a 5-11 goalkeeper from Visitation High School. A three-time All-Tri-Metro Conference member, Hartman led her team to the 2001 Sectional Championship and the state quarterfinals. The varsity soccer captain and an honor roll student, Hartman plays for Valley United. She is also an All-State skier, competing in the Junior Olympics in the giant slalom.

Bohn is a defender/midfielder from Mission Viejo High School. In 2002, Bohn guided her team to the CIF Championship. A four year member of the varsity team, Bohns teams have won the South Coast League, CIF DII and the Excalibur Tournament championships. Her club team, the Irvine Strikers, have also been highly successful, having won the Surf Cup, California Cup and NHB Cup titles.

Katz is a defender/midfielder from Ocean City High School. In 2002, Katz was named the Cape Atlantic Leagues Best Defender, while also earning First Team All-Cape Atlantic honors. She was selected to the All-South Jersey All-Start team and named to South Jerseys Second Team. During her junior and senior seasons, Katz served as varsity captain and was awarded the teams MVP trophy. A four-year member of the honor roll and a Presidental Class nominee, Katz formerly played club ball for TBAA Dolphins and is finishing out her senior year with the Ocean City Tide.

The Red Storm won the 2002 ECAC Championship and finished the season with an 11-6-4 overall record. They will open the 2003 season with a preseason scrimmage vs. Hofstra on August 20 at Belson Stadium.
