Notre Dame, IN - Three first half goals by No. 2 Notre Dame this afternoon put the game out of reach for St. John's, as the Fighting Irish went on to win 7-0 in the BIG EAST Quarterfinal match played at Alumni Field.

The Fighting Irish came out attacking early in the first half, firing their first attempt nine minutes into action. Red Storm keeper Jaime Beran (Tucson, AZ) came up with a diving save on her first test, holding off a shot by Annie Schefter.

Midway through the first half, Notre Dame opened up scoring with the first of three goals in a five-minute stretch, and the would-be game-winner.

Jen Buczkowski slid the ball past a Red Storm defender to Katie Thorlakson inside the 18-yard box. Thorlakson hit a shot with her left foot to the far right post and into the net at the 22:40 mark.

The Fighting Irish offense was relentless and just three minutes later had another shot, but this time Beran was there to make a diving save out of bounds. Notre Dame capitalized for the second time on the resulting corner kick, as Christie Shaner headed Thorlakson's cross into the net.

Thorlakson and Buczkowski teamed up again minutes later, as a give-and-go play set up Thorlakson for her second score of the game.

The Red Storm's only chance in the first half, a shot by Holly Ryder (Plantation, FL) early in the half, sailed wide.

Beran, who was tested consistently throughout the first half, came up with five saves in the period. She opened the second half with another big save, this time stopping a spinning header from inside the box by Notre Dame.

The Irish remained in control, adding three more goals over a 1:18 stretch. Lizzie Reed headed in the first goal, putting Notre Dame up 4-0 with 33:40 remaining in the second half. One minute and 40 seconds later, Thorlakson added her third goal of the afternoon after beating the final line of defense for St. John's and scoring on a one-on-one with Beran.

Thorlakson, who set a Notre Dame mark for points in a game with 10, continued her record setting afternoon, adding a fourth goal with 32:15 remaining to put the Irish up 6-0.

Lorenzen scored for a 7-0 lead with just over 20 minutes remaining, hitting a shot to the left side.

Natasha Lee (Albuquerque, NM) had a shot late in the game that sailed wide right.

The Red Storm will return to action in their final game of the season on Tuesday, November 2 at Columbia.
