Fourth Season Ambry Bishop is in her fourth season as head coach of the women's golf team at St. John's. During her first three seasons as head coach, Bishop led St. John's to its first BIG EAST Championship title, three team championships and four individual championships. In 2005, Bishop earned BIG EAST Coach of the Year Honors. "My first few seasons have been great, but I know we can achieve even more," Bishop said. "We have our eyes set on not only regaining our BIG EAST Championship title, but making it to the NCAA Tournament as well." In 2005, Bishop brought home the first BIG EAST Championship ever for the Red Storm women's golf team, and the first for a St. John's women's team since the women's soccer program won the 1994 league title. Under the direction of Bishop, who was the youngest coach in NCAA Division I in 2005, the women's golf team has made a name for itself. Bishop is no stranger to elite collegiate golf as she had an exceptional amateur career at Indiana University. She was an All-Big Ten Academic Athlete and four-year letterwinner for the Hoosiers. She placed first at the Indiana State Match Play Championship ('02) and Indianapolis Women's City Championship ('02). Bishop was also the runner-up at the Indiana Women's Open ('02), the Wolverine Invitational ('02) and the Big Ten Championship ('01, '04). Along with her collegiate golf experience, Bishop has been a crucial part of many golf programs throughout the U.S. She taught at the Indiana Gongaware Golf Academy and the Williams College Nike Golf Camp in Williams, Mass. Currently, Bishop is a junior tournament administrator for the Metropolitan Section of the PGA of America.
