QUEENS, N.Y. - Post game quotes Women's Basketball vs. UMASS

Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico
Opening Statement:
"UMASS was coming off a great win at Hartford so we were excited to play them tonight. We thought it'd be a great game. I thought we came out a little flat and they were able to score on us early. Early on, they did a great job offensively. Monique and Sky were on fire in the first half, making shots like crazy. I thought we picked up our defense later in the game. But I was happy with our effort the last 30 minutes of the game."

On Sky Lindsay and Monique McLean:
"I thought every shot that Sky and Monique took seemed to go in. They were both feeling it just as they were the last game. I would hope they could keep that going. They both are scorers; they have a scorer's mentality. They can really shoot the ball well and when they are both clicking together it's pretty amazing."

On the offensive performance on the season :
"When we make shots I feel great about our offense. There have been occasions where we didn't' make shots. That's the thing we stressed at halftime was when we're not making shots we'll need to get a stop on the defensive end and that was the first 10 minutes of the game. I think that's one of the great things about this team is that they can score. You'll always feel like you're going to be in the game because they can score. It think we need to improve our shot selection and work on making the shots a little easier by using screens and getting open looks. Once the BIG EAST season start, that defensive pressure will make our shots more difficult. We just have to get better and better every day. It's great having a number of people on the floor who can score every night."

Junior Guard Monique McLean
On taking a large lead after being down:
"We started to score so that gave us some momentum and some energy. That really helped us defend better and get points in transition."

On being a key scorer in the win:
"We have a lot of people on our team who can score and everyone isn't going to be on every day. I guess today was just my day."

On Sky Lindsay:
"I'm not surprised at Sky Lindsay's performance at all. She had the same scoring mentality in the summer time. She used to take me a lot on the court. Sky does relieve a lot of pressure from scoring because she can score and defend well."

Senior Forward Tiina Sten
On her performance this season:
"I wasn't playing at my level the first few games. I got in foul trouble; I was out of my game. Now I feel like the last couple games I've been more comfortable and I'm starting to play the way I can."
