Flushing, N.Y.--The St. Johns mens tennis team had a strong showing this weekend at the Scott Satrun Memorial tournament played on the campus of Queens College. The Red Storm had five players reach the quarterfinals; two players reach the semifinals and one player advance to the finals.
Junior Arnaud Agniel (Aix-en Province, France) defeated teammate Nick Stocker (Norwich, England) in a quarterfinal match, 6-0, 6-2, and then went on to beat Concordias Baskar Chowdhury in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-1. Agniel fell to Hofstras Nskola Djordojevic in the finals, 6-1, 6-3.
Senior Jake Maxwell (Glen Cove, N.Y.) defeated teammate Todd Goldberg (Pomona, N.Y.) in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-1, but fell in the semifinals to eventual champion Djordojevic, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Boris Chiporukha (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also fell victim to Djordojevic, dropping a quarterfinal match, 6-1, 6-1.
The St. Johns mens tennis team returns to action on October 25-26 when they travel to Philadelphia to play in the Rolex Invitational.
